Endorphins
Endorphins -- the body's natural pain killers
This is my personal viewpoint and opinion from many years of medical research and as a psych nurse. If you can understand the underlying physical changes that take place after taking pain killers or other drugs including alcohol, then you'll understand more about what you can do to stop your cravings for drugs.
It is really very simple.
It's important to understand the underlying physical changes that are responsible for physical addiction to pain killers. For some reason it doesn't seem to be common knowledge. I've had the discussion many times about addiction and no one seems to realize the connection.
When you're addicted physically to a drug, like pain killers or alcohol, etc., it's because you've shut down your body's production of endorphins, which are natural opiate pain killers; when this happens you start craving the drug that you replaced the endorphins with whether it's alcohol, any of a number of drugs or pain killers.
The body depends on the endorphins for many reasons; it has many purposes in the body including increasing our natural killer cells and other healthy immune defenses against cancer.
If you want to get off pain killers or other drugs, it's best to get detoxified as fast as you can and go through some sort of rehabilitation. It's important to have others to lean on and learn from and offer support to you. Besides that, what you can do on your own or even start now is to try to increase your own endorphin production.
There are many ways to increase it. You may know what the feeling is when you belly laugh or look at a newborn baby. Those feelings are the endorphins at work.
Make a list of what you can do to try to keep this level of endorphins up.
I'll list many ways here to give you an idea of what increases them. Independent research on your part may dig up some others.
In random fashion-- not organized, but you'll get the idea: laughing, belly laughs, smile on your face (even when you don't feel like it) listening to jokes, watching funny movies, going to comedy clubs, watching the Comedy Channel, joining laughter clubs, looking at newborn babies or any babies for that matter, winning something, high hopes coming true--getting the dream job for example.
Then there is running, walking, power walking, hiking, aerobic exercise, dancing, MOVING, keep it moving, anything physically that requires a push, not just a push out of the chair.
Then there is acupuncture-- a great help but will need to repeat treatments. Acupressure is cheaper and works well also. Get books on acupressure points but touching and pressing anywhere in the meantime will benefit you. Massage by others and self. Being touched by others, hugs, kisses, warm family get-togethers with no alcohol. Alcohol will quickly take the place of the endorphins defeating any good you are looking for from the endorphins.
Hot showers that make your skin tingle. There are beta-endorphins in the skin. That's one reason why touching and showers, etc., feel so good.
There are many other ways to increase the endorphins naturally. This is a start.
Start working today on increasing your endorphin production and you'll quickly start to lose your cravings for pain killers, cocaine, heroin, all opioids, methamphetamines and all other drugs and alcohol included.
How could it be so simple? Also see my report on another page on this site for additional endorphin info: As a Nurse-- I Found a Natural Cure For Pain Killer Addiction
If you're addicted to pain killers or think you are or may be addicted to pain killers, I hope you find this page. I have shared this technique with many others who have
successfully cured themselves or healed themselves from pain killer addictions, other drugs and alcohol addictions too.
It's important to remember too that changing your lifestyle will be necessary. Your focus every day should be on something other than drugs. You may have to give up some friends. And very important-- to get your good health back, try to eat the most natural diet possible. That is living foods-- foods that are alive. They will help you restore your body and give you boundless energy and require less sleep and you'll get rid of bodily aches and pains just like that. Try to give up meat, dairy, pop, junk, the gluten grains like wheat, rye and barley and anything cooked, canned or processed. They are all acidic inflammatory foods. Think plants, and aliveness. Fruits and lots of them. Huge salads (not iceberg lettuce), veggies, raw nut and seeds. There are websites devoted to raw foods or living foods, including lots of great simple recipes. You'll be amazed at a quick recovery if you apply yourself.
You can do it. Many have. I've been eating this way for 8 years, curing myself of breast cancer without chemo, radiation, surgery, etc. I'm in perfect health, you can be too.
Knowing these principles about endorphin production will help get you on the road to pain killer addiction recovery fast. Start working on it today and you'll notice changes tomorrow. By the way, I was a psych nurse for many years and know a lot about pain killers and all types of addictions. I've seen many people recover successfully and live great lives. I know you can do it too. If you have some religious ties or are familiar with the DVD "The Secret" , either or both can help you understand, plan and set visual goals and approaches to pain killer addiction. To your good health!
