Class action suit coming next??? Get informed fast. In the news, in case you didn't see it--- The public was misled about the painkiller OxyContin's risk of addiction.The maker of OxyContin, Purdue Pharma L.P. and three of its current and former executives pleaded guilty to misleading the public about the risk of addiction. (May 2007)
They claimed OxyContin was less addictive and less subject to abuse than other pain killers or pain medications. They apparently encouraged physicians to over prescribe OxyContin.
U.S. Attorney John Brownlee said "With its OxyContin, Purdue unleashed a highly abusable, addictive, and potentially dangerous drug on an unsuspecting and unknowing public. For these misrepresentations and crimes, Purdue and its executives have been brought to justice.
The Purdue spokesman said " We promoted the medicine only to health care professionals, not to consumers."
OxyContin is designed to be swallowed in pill form and takes 12 hours to digest. If OxyContin is crushed and then swallowed, snorted or injected it can produce a heroin-like high.
If you're addicted to this painkiller- OxyContin, you might want to do some extensive research on this news and check on class action lawsuits. Any settlements might take some time however and sometimes settlements can be years away. Check with your attorney or watch for ads in your area from class action lawyers-- on TV or in the newspapers. A settlement would help pay for or might totally pay for rehabilitation.
